The Book Being a Skinhead: The Life of the Anti-Fascist Socrates

Anarchist and anti-fascist Alexey “Socrates” Sutuga was killed on September 1, 2020. This book is an attempt to preserve the memory of a person who contributed greatly to the anti-fascist movement and to show what the period now called “the fat zeroes” was really like. Socrates participated in environmental tent camps and street fights against the far right. After the murders of anti-fascists, he began guarding punk concerts and rallies — and served two prison terms on political charges. At the same time, he worked in construction, performed in theater, and was preparing a book about his prison experience.

This is not an authorized biography. The book contains memories of Socrates’ friends, transcripts of his speeches and interviews, and a reissue of his book Dialogues About Prison, with commentary by fellow political prisoners Alexey Polikhovich and Ivan Astashin.
